Thioredoxin reductase reduces thioredoxin, thereby contributing to multiple cellular events related to carcinogenesis including cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell signaling. This selenium-containing oxidoreductase is over-expressed in many malignant cells and has been proposed as a target for cancer therapy.
