Recent developments in gravitation theory indicate that the classic general relativity is an effective macroscopic theory which will be eventually replaced with a more fundamental theory based on thermodynamics of yet unknown microscopic degrees of freedom. Here we consider thermodynamics of an effective Minkowski spacetime which may be formed under the influence of external magnetic field in a cobalt ferrofluid. It appears that the extraordinary photons propagating inside the ferrofluid…

Experimental Observation of Melting of the Effective Minkowski Spacetime in Cobalt-Based Ferrofluids

Hyperbolic metamaterials were originally introduced to overcome the diffraction limit of optical imaging. Soon thereafter it was realized that they demonstrate a number of novel phenomena resulting

Experimental demonstration of metamaterial "multiverse" in a ferrofluid.

Extraordinary light rays propagating inside a hyperbolic metamaterial look similar to particle world lines in a 2 + 1 dimensional Minkowski spacetime. Magnetic nanoparticles in a ferrofluid are known

Analog of gravitational force in hyperbolic metamaterials

Sub-wavelength confinement of light in nonlinear hyperbolic metamaterials due to formation of spatial solitons has attracted much recent attention because of its seemingly counter-intuitive behavior.

Holographic duality in nonlinear hyperbolic metamaterials

According to the holographic principle, the description of a volume of space can be thought of as encoded on its boundary. Holographic principle establishes equivalence, or duality, between

It is demonstrated that high Tc superconductors exhibit hyperbolic metamaterial behavior in the far infrared and THz frequency ranges, while no propagating photon modes exist in the superconducting state.

Experimental model of topological defects in Minkowski space–time based on disordered ferrofluid: magnetic monopoles, cosmic strings and the space–time cloak

A microscopic study of point, linear, planar and volume defects of the nanoparticle chain structure is presented and it is demonstrated that they may exhibit strong similarities with such Minkowski space–time defects as magnetic monopoles, cosmic strings and the recently proposed space-time cloaks.

The Einstein equation is derived from the form of black hole entropy together with the fundamental relation $\delta Q=TdS$ connecting heat, entropy, and temperature, and its validity is seen to depend on the existence of local equilibrium conditions.

Signature change in loop quantum cosmology

The Wick rotation is commonly considered only as an useful computational trick. However, as it was suggested by Hartle and Hawking already in early eighties, Wick rotation may gain physical meaning

On the origin of gravity and the laws of Newton

Starting from first principles and general assumptions we present a heuristic argument that shows that Newton’s law of gravitation naturally arises in a theory in which space emerges through a
