We study QCD at finite temperature in the presence of imaginary electric fields. In particular, we determine the electric susceptibility, the leading coefficient in the expansion of the QCD pressure in the imaginary field. Unlike for magnetic fields, at nonzero temperature this coefficient requires a non-trivial separation of genuine electric field-related effects and spurious effects related to the chemical potential, which becomes an unphysical gauge parameter in this setting. Our results are…

Lattice QCD with strong external electric fields.

- Physics, MedicinePhysical review letters
- 2013

To avoid the sign problem of the Minkowskian electric field, the "isospin" electric charge is adopted and pairs of charged particles are produced by the Schwinger mechanism in lattice QCD.

Magnetization and pressures at nonzero magnetic fields in QCD

Two approaches are pursued to determine the magnetization of the QCD vacuum at zero and nonzero temperatures using lattice simulations. The first method builds on pressure anisotropies which are…

A bstractThe effect of an external (electro)magnetic field on the finite temperature transition of QCD is studied. We generate configurations at various values of the quantized magnetic flux with Nf…

Chiral magnetic effect

Topological charge changing transitions can induce chirality in the quark-gluon plasma by the axial anomaly. We study the equilibrium response of the quark-gluon plasma in such a situation to an…

Charged and neutral, pion and kaon electric polarizabilities are extracted from lattice QCD using an ensemble of anisotropic gauge configurations with dynamical clover fermions. We utilize classical…

The QCD equation of state in background magnetic fields

A bstractWe determine the equation of state of 2+1-flavor QCD with physical quark masses, in the presence of a constant (electro)magnetic background field on the lattice. To determine the free energy…

Critical point in the QCD phase diagram for extremely strong background magnetic fields

Lattice simulations have demonstrated that a background (electro)magnetic field reduces the chiral/deconfinement transition temperature of quantum chromodynamics for eB < 1 GeV2. On the level of…

A calculational scheme for obtaining the electric polarizability of the neutron in lattice QCD with dynamical quarks is developed, using the background field approach. The scheme differs…

Abstract Pure non-Abelian gauge models with gauge group SU( N ) are considered in a box with periodic boundary conditions at various temperatures β −1 . Electric and magnetic flux are defined in a…
