I present a tractable theory for the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) of magnons. The low-energy transition operator is written as a product of local spin operators and fundamental x-ray absorption spectral functions. This leads to simple selection rules. The scattering cross section linear (quadratic) in spin operators is proportional to the fundamental magnetic circular (linear) dichroic spectral function. RIXS is a novel tool to measure magnetic quasiparticles (magnons) and the…

Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering of magnetic excitations under pressure.
TLDR
This article presents a setup for high-pressure low-temperature RIXS measurements of low-energy excitations and investigates the magnetic excitations of the bilayer iridate Sr3Ir2O7 at pressures up to 12 GPa.
Toroidal silicon polarization analyzer for resonant inelastic x-ray scattering.
TLDR
The fabrication of thin Si-based polarization analyzers with a double-concave toroidal surface is reported, useful for L-edge RIXS studies in heavier atoms such as the 5-d transition metals.
Collective nature of spin excitations in superconducting cuprates probed by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering.
TLDR
These findings demonstrate that the largest fraction of the spin-flip RIXS profiles in doped cuprates arises from magnetic collective modes, rather than from incoherent particle-hole excitations as recently suggested theoretically.
Exact diagonalization results for resonant inelastic x-ray scattering spectra of one-dimensional Mott insulators
We examine the momentum-dependent excitation spectra of indirect as well as direct resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) processes in half-filled (extended) Hubbard rings. We determine the
Resolving the nature of electronic excitations in resonant inelastic x-ray scattering
The study of elementary bosonic excitations is essential toward a complete description of quantum electronic solids. In this context, resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) has recently risen to
Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering Studies of Elementary Excitations
In the past decade, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) has made remarkable progress as a spectroscopic technique. This is a direct result of the availability of high-brilliance synchrotron
