An equation for the molecular relaxation time in molten glasses is derived on the basis of “hole” theory. This equation is a generalization of the familiar equations of Frenkel', Shishkin, Jenckel, et al. The effects of temperature and pressure on the molecular mobility in liquids and glasses are discussed, and there is a discussion of the high-pressure “plasticity” of inorganic glasses.
