The introduction of liquid 3He into a silica aerogel provides us with a model system in which to study the effects of disorder on the properties of a strongly correlated Fermi liquid. The transport of heat, mass and spin exhibits cross-over behavior from a high temperature regime, where inelastic scattering dominates, to a low temperature regime dominated by elastic scattering off the aerogel. We report exact and approximate solutions to the Boltzmann–Landau transport equation for the thermal…

Thermal transport of helium-3 in a strongly confining channel

This work reports on the thermal conduction of helium-3 in a 1.1 μm high channel and proposes that an anomalous thermal response is detected in the superfluid which is proposed arises from the emission of a flux of surface excitations from the channel.

Chiral phases of superfluid 3 He in an anisotropic medium

I report theoretical analysis and predictions for the equilibrium phases of superfluid 3He infused into a low-density, homogeneous uniaxial aerogel. Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory for a class of

Pair Fluctuation Effects on Quasiparticle Transport in Fermi Systems

The leading corrections to Fermi liquid theory for non-equilibrium quasiparticle transport near a Cooper instability arise from the virtual emission and absorption of incipient Cooper pairs. We

Tuning pair-breaking at the surface of topological superfluid $^3$He

Since the discovery of superconductivity in heavy fermion metals and oxide materials many emerging superconducting materials have been found to exhibit unconventional, non s-wave, pairing. In

Effect of Magnetic Boundary Conditions on Superfluid ^{3}He in Nematic Aerogel.

It is assumed that the main reason for these phenomena is a magnetic channel of the scattering which becomes important at low coverages and can be essential in other Fermi systems with triplet pairing.

New Phases of Superfluid $^3$He Confined in Aerogels.

Liquid He confined in low-density, highly porous random solids such as silica aerogel provides tuneable systems to study the effects of disorder and confinement on the properties of a quantum liquid.

Thermal Conductivity of Normal Liquid 3He in Aerogel

We report thermal conductivity measurements for normal phase liquid 3He inside 98 and 95% aerogels at dilution refrigerator temperatures (5 to 50 mK). In our measurements we use cylindrical samples

Sound Propagation and Transport Properties of Liquid 3He in Aerogel

Superfluid3He confined in aerogel offers a unique chance to study the effects of a short mean free path on the properties of a well defined superfluid Fermi liquid with anisotropic pairing. Transport

The role of aerogel as a means of introducing correlated disorder into superfluid He is examined in this paper. The aerogel structure is described by a diffusion-limited cluster aggregation model and

Landau Fermi liquid theory

This article reviews the Landau theory of interacting Fermi liquids such as mobile electrons in solids or helium-3. It starts with Landau's original formulation which takes advantage of the existence
