These lectures introduce some of the basic theory of cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization with the primary aim of developing the theory of CMB polarization from inflationary gravitational waves, as well as some of the related theory of weak gravitational lensing (cosmic shear) of CMB polarization. We begin with production of polarization by Thomson scattering. We then discuss tensor-harmonic analysis (the ``grad-curl'' or ``E-B'' decomposition) on a flat and full sky in some detail… Expand

The Quest for B Modes from Inflationary Gravitational Waves
The search for the curl component (B mode) in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization induced by inflationary gravitational waves is described. The canonical single-field slow-roll modelExpand
THE POWER SPECTRUM OF COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND POLARIZATION FROM COSMIC STRING WAKES
We compute the integrated Sachs – Wolfe type contribution to the CMB polarization power spectrum from cosmic string wakes. An introduction to topological defects, cosmic strings, CMB polarization,Expand
Analytic Approach to the CMB Polarization Generated by Relic Gravitational Waves
By Polnarev's method we analytically calculate the polarization spectra of the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) generated by cosmic relic gravitational waves (RGW). In this analyticExpand
Causality and Primordial Tensor Modes
We introduce the real space correlation function of B-mode polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) as a probe of superhorizon tensor perturbations created by inflation. By causality,Expand
CMB Polarization and Theories of Gravitation with Massive Gravitons
We study in this paper three different theories of gravitation with massive gravitons - the modified Fierz-Pauli (FP) model, Massive Gravity and the bimetric theory proposed by Visser - in linearExpand
Polarization of Cosmic Microwave Background
In this work we present an extension of the ROMA map-making code for data analysis of Cosmic Microwave Background polarization, with particular attention given to the inflationary polarizationExpand
A constraint on Planck-scale modifications to electrodynamics with CMB polarization data
We show that the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization data gathered by the BOOMERanG 2003 flight and WMAP provide an opportunity to investigate in-vacuo birefringence, of a type expected inExpand
GALAXIAS Two Approaches to Modern Observational Cosmology : Detection of Point-like Sources in Polarization Maps of the Cosmic Microwave Background , and Estimation of Dark Matter Distribution in Galaxy Clusters
In this work, two of the current researching fields in Modern Observational Cosmology are approached: the search for observational evidence of primordial gravitational waves, and the determination ofExpand
CMB anisotropies induced by tensor modes in Massive Gravity
We study Gravitational Waves (GWs) in the context of Massive Gravity, an extension to General Relativity (GR) where the fluctuations of the metric have a nonzero mass, and specifically investigateExpand

The last five years have seen the coming of age of Modern Cosmology, a mature branch of science based on the Big Bang theory and the Inflationary Paradigm. In particular, we can now define ratherExpand
Cosmological Inflation and Large-Scale Structure
TLDR
This textbook is the first to provide a modern and unified overview of inflationary cosmology and carefully compares predictions with the latest observations, including those of the cosmic microwave background, the clustering and velocities of galaxies and the epoch of structure formation. Expand
