The material α-RuCl3, with a two-dimensional Ru-honeycomb sublattice, has attracted considerable attention because it may be a realization of the Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL). Recently, a new honeycomb material, α-RuI3, was prepared under moderate high-pressure and it is stable under ambient conditions. However, different from α-RuCl3, α-RuI3 was reported to be a paramagnetic metal without long-range magnetic order down to 0.35 K. Here, the structural and electronic properties of the quasi…

Electronic and magnetic properties of the RuX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) family: two siblings—and a cousin?

Motivated by reports of metallic behavior in the recently synthesized RuI 3 , in contrast to the Mott-insulating nature of the actively discussed α -RuCl 3 , as well as RuBr 3 , we present a detailed

Honeycomb‐Structure RuI3, A New Quantum Material Related to α‐RuCl3

TLDR
A new polymorph of RuI3 with a layered honeycomb lattice structure, synthesized at moderately high pressures and stable under ambient conditions is described, which is proposed to provide a new route for the characterization of quantum materials.

Optical and transport properties of the magnetic semiconductor α‐RuCl3

The optical and transport properties in the paramagnetic phase of α-RuCl3 are studied here for the first time. Values are reported for the dc conductivity of single crystals over the temperature

Superconductivity in an infinite-layer nickelate

TLDR
The observation of superconductivity in an infinite-layer nickelate that is isostructural to infinite- Layer copper oxides11–13 and the possibility of a family of nickelate superconductors analogous to Copper oxides and pnictides25 is suggested.

Majorana fermions in the Kitaev quantum spin system α-RuCl 3

α-RuCl3 has recently attracted great interest as a possible experimental realization of the Kitaev model. Neutron scattering measurements of a single crystal of this material reveal signatures of

Excitations in the field-induced quantum spin liquid state of α-RuCl3

The celebrated Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL) is the paradigmatic example of a topological magnet with emergent excitations in the form of Majorana Fermions and gauge fluxes. Upon breaking of

Fingerprints of an orbital-selective Mott phase in the block magnetic state of BaFe2Se3 ladders

Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering (RIXS) experiments on the iron-based ladder BaFe2Se3 unveiled an unexpected two-peak structure associated with local orbital (dd) excitations in a block-type

Complexity in Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems

TLDR
The spontaneous emergence of electronic nanometer-scale structures in transition metal oxides, and the existence of many competing states, are properties often associated with complex matter where nonlinearities dominate, such as soft materials and biological systems.

Multiferroicity due to charge ordering

In this contribution to the special issue on multiferroics we focus on multiferroicity driven by different forms of charge ordering. We will present the generic mechanisms by which charge ordering

Neutron scattering in the proximate quantum spin liquid α-RuCl3

TLDR
A comprehensive inelastic neutron scattering study of single crystals of the material α-RuCl3, which has been predicted to a host a Kitaev spin liquid, finds highly unusual signals, including a column of scattering over a large energy interval around the Brillouin zone center, which is consistent with scattering from the Majorana excitations of a KQSL.
