Abstract Making use of Aristotle’s analyses, this paper proposes a conception of urban citizenship and the virtues that are essential to it. Toleration, concern, and trusteeship are identified as the key virtues and preconditions for the inculcation of these virtues within the culture of a city’s citizens are discussed.
