By the removal and addition of coconut crabs (Birgus latro L.) within small areas of the Republic of Vanuatu we were able to ascertain the relationship between catch per unit effort (crabs caught per bait) and density. These standard and inverse Leslie experiments were done in conjunction with a Petersen mark recapture study at one of the sites.
