The need for increased dietary studies on nonhuman primates is discussed. A method combining both direct observation and fecal analysis is proposed as the most satisfactory for such studies. The procedure for fecal analysis is outlined and the application of the results discussed. A field investigation concerning the diet of four primates—baboon, vervet, Sykes', and colobus—was greatly aided by the investigator's use of scat analysis.
