The use of rodents for studies of toxicity in contraceptive research is discussed. Data on tumor susceptibility of rats mice and hamsters are presented. It was concluded that the use of rodents which have a high and variable incidence of spontaneous tumors in carcinogenic tests can not confirm or exclude a potential carcinogenic risk to women.
