The hepatocyte primary culture (HPC)--DNA repair test and the adult rat liver epithelial cell (ARL)--hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase (HGPRT) mutagenesis assay are two in vitro short-term tests that possess intrinsic capability for xenobiotic biotransformation.
