Every eye movement produces a shift in the visual image on the retina. The receptive field, or retinal response area, of an individual visual neuron moves with the eyes so that after an eye movement it covers a new portion of visual space. For some parietal neurons, the location of the receptive field is shown to shift transiently before an eye movement. In addition, nearly all parietal neurons respond when an eye movement brings the site of a previously flashed stimulus into the receptive…
A Sensory Memory to Preserve Visual Representations Across Eye Movements
TLDR
A computational model is developed to trace the changes in the visuospatial sensitivity of neurons in the extrastriate cortex of macaque monkeys with high temporal precision and reveals how the brain exploits available information to maintain the sense of vision in the absence of visual information.
Eye position effects on the remapped memory trace of visual motion in cortical area MST
TLDR
It is suggested that two mechanisms, trans-saccadic memory remapping and gaze modulation, work cooperatively in individual MST neurons to represent a continuous visual world.
Active Vision in Parietal and Extrastriate Cortex

TLDR
The central hypothesis is that a corollary discharge of the eye movement command updates, or remaps, an internal representation when the eyes move, and shed new light on the neural circuitry involved in producing a stable and coherent perception of visual space.
Updating of the visual representation in monkey striate and extrastriate cortex during saccades

TLDR
Results indicate that extrastriate visual areas are involved in the process of remapping, and show that remapping was very rare in striate cortex.
Spatial invariance of visual receptive fields in parietal cortex neurons
TLDR
This work shows that in a subdivision of the monkey parietal lobe, the ventral intraparietal area (VIP), the activity of visual neurons is modulated by eye-position signals, as in many other areas of the cortical visual system.
Representation of the ipsilateral visual field by neurons in the macaque lateral intraparietal cortex depends on the forebrain commissures.
TLDR
Bilateral representations in area LIP following forebrain commissures transection cannot account for remapping across hemifields, and a small number of neurons with bilateral receptive fields in LIP neurons in split-brain monkeys are found.
Ongoing eye movements constrain visual perception
TLDR
It is found that eye movements significantly promoted perceptual coherence compared to fixation, which indicates that eye movement information constrains the perceptual interpretation of visual inputs.
Correlates of transsaccadic integration in the primary visual cortex of the monkey.
TLDR
It is argued that this fast postsaccadic restoration of the attentional response enhancement contributes to the stability of vision across eye movements, and reduces the impact of saccades on visual cognition.

It is suggested that the role of area 7 in visual attention may be mediated by the enhancement of visual responses to selected stimuli, which resembles the psychological phenomenon of selective spatial attention.

Eye position effects on visual, memory, and saccade-related activity in areas LIP and 7a of macaque
TLDR
The present results indicate that this modulating effect of eye position may be a general one, as it is found in 3 types of responses in 2 cortical areas, and it is proposed that these eye position effects play an important role in making coordinate transformations for visually guided movement.
Organization of monkey superior colliculus: enhanced visual response of superficial layer cells.
TLDR
Results of these experiments indicate that the enhancement of visual response seems likely to be related specifically to eye movements both on physiological and behavioral grounds, and the response-free term "attention" is probably inappropriate for the phenomenon.

A newly identified class of neurons of the parietal cortex, studied in waking monkeys (Macaca mulatta), is activated by visual stimuli, perhaps via the retino-collicular visual pathway. This afferent

The purpose of the present experiments was to determine whether receptive fields of striate cortex neurons in the awake, behaving animal are similar to those in the anesthetized animal.

In a large subpopulation of area LIP, a fairly precise alignment exists between sensory and motor fields, and a set of "narrowly tuned" neurons was selected by imposing a constraint of narrow LS and S-Co direction tuning.

A composite thin film resistor is disclosed, including an electrically inert substrate upon which is deposited a nickel-chromium alloy thin film, and an overlying second thin film - which is initially deposited as metallic tantalum - which provides a very high degree of environmental protection with respect to the Ni-Cr film.
