The heterodimeric hemoprotein SoxXA, essential for lithotrophic sulfur oxidation of the aerobic bacterium Paracoccus pantotrophus, was examined by a combination of spectroelectrochemistry and EPR spectroscopy. The EPR spectra for SoxXA showed contributions from three paramagnetic heme iron centers.
