Among 54 transcripts expressed in a temporal cascade during lytic infection with bovine herpesvirus 1, we have previously identified three major immediate-early (IE) RNAs, IER4.2 (4.2 kb), IER2.9 (2.9 kb), and IER1.7 (1.6 to 1.8 kb depending on the virus strain) transcribed from the HindIII C genome region (U.
