Mouldy hay associated with farmer’s lung disease contains large numbers of actinomycete spores (Gregory & Lacey, 1962, I 963 a). The commonest thermophilic and mesophilic species were described by Corbaz, Gregory & Lacey (1963) and spores of two of the thermophilic species named Thermopolyspora polyspora Hens and Micromonospora vulgaris Waksmen et al. have been shown to be the main source of ‘farmer’s lung hay’ antigens (Pepys et aE. 1963; Pepys & Jenkins, 1965).
