The theory of a previous paper is applied to the paramagnetic resonance of certain cobalt salts. The splitting of the orbital levels by the crystalline field is first investigated, and then the further splitting by the spin-orbit interaction. The g-values so derived are in good agreement with experiment. The magnitude of the hyperfine splitting is also in good agreement.

Paramagnetic Resonance in Vanadous Ammonium Sulphate
In the solid state the orbital momentum of the divalent vanadium ion 3d3 is quenched by the cubic crystalline field, leaving a spin quadruplet as the ground state. Paramagnetic resonance measurements
Molecular orbital theory of the ligand field in hydrated V3+ salts
The theory of magnetic anisotropy and susceptibility of V3+ salts has been worked out on the basis of the molecular orbital method of Stevens and others, since the usual electrostatic field theory is
Results and Theory of Paramagnetic Resonance
In passing from the study of gaseous microwave spectroscopy to that of paramagnetic resonance, the consideration of individual molecules is changing to that of atoms, or ions, embedded in the crystal
Intensity and pine structure of the main optical absorption bands in hydrated cobaltous salts
Abstract The fine structure ad the intensities of the main optical absorption bands in hydrated cobaltons salts are investigated theoretically on the basis of the crystal field theory. Calculations
Magnetic properties of Co2+ ions in octahedral interstices of an oxide lattice
The magnetic properties of Co2+ ions in octahedral environment are discussed in relation to the energy-level scheme. It appears that the three low-lying levels arising from the 4F(Γ4) triplet as a
Electron paramagnetic resonance of Co:Rb2MgF4 and anomalous g-value of paired spin system
We have observed electron paramagnetic resonance of paired spin in Rb 2 Co 0.3 Mg 0.7 F 4 at 220, 370, 693.6 and 762.2 GHz in pulsed magnetic fields and found that the g -value is different from that
On the theory of an ESR spectrum: d1 configurations in rutile
The expressions for the anisotropic and the hyperfine structure coupling constants A for the d1 configuration in a crystal field of tetragonal symmetry are derived, including the excited cubic
Theory of infrared absorption by pairs of cobalt ions in MgF2
The microscopic mechanism responsible for the electric dipole two‐magnon absorption in rutile antiferromagnets remains in some dispute. Three mechanisms have been suggested which appear to make
EPR and optical spectra of cobalt in SrLaAlO4
The paramagnetic resonance and optical spectra of Co 2+ ions in SrLaAlO 4 single crystals are reported. The EPR spectrum shows one electronic transition consisting of eight hyperfine lines with
Electron Spin Resonance and Electronic Absorption Spectra of Rh II in ZnWO4
The electron spin resonance (ESR) and electronic absorption spectra of Rh II in a single crystal of ZnWO4 have been recorded. Excited state energies determined from the electronic spectrum are used
