For biomedical applications drug carrying polymers are coated around magnetic iron oxide particles to form microspheres. In the present study, the iron oxide powder was ball milled. Microspheres were then synthesized by solvent evaporation, resulting in iron oxide particles encapsulated in a polymer and drug coating.
