Cucurbitacin glucosides: antioxidant and free-radical scavenging activities.

Nutritionally important carotenoids as consumer products

Abstract Carotenoids are nutritionally-beneficial organic tetraterpenoid pigments synthesized mainly by plants, bacteria and fungi. Although research has focused on the production of carotenoids in

Preparation and Corresponding Properties of a Novel Aqueous Derivative of Lutein

The disulfosuccinate sodium salt of lutein (Ldss) was prepared for the first time and an obvious blue shift appeared in the UV absorption spectra of its aqueous solution due to the formation of sub...

Carotenoids as Novel Therapeutic Molecules Against Neurodegenerative Disorders: Chemistry and Molecular Docking Analysis

It is shown that carotenoids are powerful anti-amyloidogenic molecules with a potential role in preventing AD, especially since most of them can cross the blood-brain barrier and are considered nutraceutical compounds.

Improved Aqueous Solubility of Crystalline Astaxanthin (3,3′‐dihydroxy‐β, β‐carotene‐4,4′‐dione) by Captisol® (Sulfobutyl Ether β‐Cyclodextrin)

The ability of sulfobutyl ether β‐cyclodextrin (sodium), as the Captisol® brand, to increase the aqueous water solubility of crystalline astaxanthin was evaluated, and it is unlikely that this increase insolubility will result in a pharmaceutically acceptable chemical delivery system for humans.

Chiral detection of carotenoid assemblies.

UV/VIS and CD spectroscopy revealed the formation of J- and H-types of aggregates of both right- and left-handed kinds and a hypothetical structure for H-type assemblies is proposed.

Bioactive carotenoids: potent antioxidants and regulators of gene expression

The ability to deliver biologically active carotenoids at high concentration and with good reproducibility appears to have been achieved and antineoplastic potential is suggested.

Investigation of the Self-Organization of Lutein and Lutein Diacetate by Electronic Absorption, Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy, and Atomic Force Microscopy

Spontaneously forming H- and J-type chiral self-assemblies of lutein and lutein diacetate were studied by means of ultraviolet−visible and circular dichroism spectroscopy (CD). Spectroscopic
