Significant differences in the backscatter amplitudes which are correlated with different tissue morphology have been observed in ultrasound images of tissue. While many factors could be linked to subtle changes in the images, the purpose of this paper is to explore the possibility that backscatter signals are linked to the organization of the spatial distribution of individual cells that produce an ensemble of scattering sources.
