The capture of a new species of the subgenus Migonemyia Galati, 1995 (Diptera, Psychodidae, Phlebotominae), Migonemyia vaniae sp. nov. in the Ribeira Valley, state of São Paulo, Brazil, together with the other two species: Mg. migonei (França, 1920) and Mg. rabelloi (Galati & Gomes, 1992) lead us to review this subgenus. The new species was described and illustrated. The genitalia of the two other species were also illustrated and some genital characteristics (number of setae on the gonocoxite…

The 69 recorded species of phlebotomine sand flies from Sao Paulo State, including 7 species reported here for the first time to occur in this region, are organized in a checklist using the phylogenetic classification of Galati (2003).
Lutzomyia diamantinensis sp. nov., a new phlebotomine species (Diptera: Psychodidae) from a quartzite cave in Diamantina, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
A new species of Brazilian phlebotomine sandfly found in Brazil, municipality of Diamantina, state of Minas Gerais, is described based on males and females collected in a quartzite cave and the morphological features permit its inclusion in the migonei group.
Molecular and Biochemical Markers for Investigating the Vectorial Roles of Brazilian Sand Flies
This chapter considers the complementary approaches necessary for identifying morphospecies, geographical populations characterized by distinct genetic lineages, and sympatric sibling species reproductively isolated by courtship behavior.

Guide to the Identification and Geographic Distribution of Lutzomyia Sand Flies in Mexico, the West Indies, Central and South America (Diptera:Psychodidae)
Abstract : Nearly 400 species and subspecies of phlebotomine sand flies in the medically important genus Lutzomyia are identified by taxanomic keys to the adults and by associated illustrations.
Distribution of Phlebotomine Sand Flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil
The widespread distribution of L. longipalpis, its adaptation to peridomicillary settings, and its ability to transmit L. (d.) chagasi suggest that a large number of persons may be at risk of acquiring visceral leishmaniasis in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
Estudo dos flebotomíneos (Diptera: Psychodidae) em área de leishmaniose tegumentar americana nos municípios de Alto Caparaó e Caparaó, Estado de Minas Gerais
A significant difference in the composition of sand fly species was found in the studied points, and Lutzomyia intermedia is the species suspected of transmitting Leishmania in the region.
