A sialic acid-binding lectin, AchatininH (ATNH), having unique specificity towards 9-O-acetylneuraminic acid, has been purified and characterized. The specificity of this lectin for O-acetylsialic acids was studied in detail, using various sialic acid derivatives and sialoglycoproteins.
