Preparations of sheep liver cytoplasmic aldehyde dehydrogenase obtained by published methods were found by analytical isoelectric focusing in the pH range 5--8 to contain 5--10% by weight of the mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase. Under the conditions used the pI of the cytoplasmic enzyme is 6.2 and that of the mitochondrial enzyme 6.6.
