Mechanical alloying (MA) is a powder metallurgy processing technique involving cold welding, fracturing, and rewelding of powder particles in a high-energy ball mill, and has now become an established commercial technique to produce oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) nickeland iron-based materials. MA is also capable of synthesizing a variety of metastable phases, and in this respect, the capabilities of MA are similar to those of another important non-equilibrium processing technique, viz…

Mechanical alloying is an effective method to synthesize nanocrystalline metal powders in the monolithic and composite states. The process involves repeated cold welding, fracturing and rewelding of

Synthesis of Fe–Al Intermetallic by Mechanical Alloying Process

In the present work, mechanical alloying (MA) of iron and aluminum powder has been performed by planetary ball mills. Milling balls of different sizes 5, 15, and 20 mm in diameter were used for the

Study And Characterization of A Metal Matrix Composite Reinforced with Tantalum Carbide-TaC

Steel is an alloy EUROFER promising for use in nuclear reactors, or in applications where the material is subjected to temperatures up to 550°C due to their lower creep resistance under. One way to

Production of Al based Composites Reinforced with FeAl Intermetallic Particles by Mechanical Alloying

In this research project, Al matrix composite materials reinforced with 5 and 10 (wt.%) of FeAl intermetallic particles were synthesized by Mechanical Alloying (MA) at a speed of 250 RPM for 2, 5, 10

The Synthesis and Properties of Advanced Aluminium and Copper Based Metal Matrix Composites

This thesis studies the influence that submicrometric alumina particles (α-Al2O3) and milled carbon fibres (MCFs) have on the microstructure, hardness, mechanical properties, and wear of aluminium

Thermal Behavior of Mechanically Alloyed Powders Used for Producing an Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni Shape Memory Alloy

In order to produce shape memory rings for constrained-recovery pipe couplings, from Fe-14 Mn-6 Si-9 Cr-5 Ni (mass%) powders, the main technological steps were (i) mechanical alloying, (ii)

Effect of Mechanical Alloying on the Microstructure of CoCrNiTiMox High Entropy Alloy

The present research focuses on synthesizing nanocrystalline CoCrNiTiMo x ( x : molar ratio; x = 1, 1.5 at.%, respectively) high entropy alloy by mechanical alloying of pure metal powders for further

Study of the feasibility of producing Al–Ni intermetallic compounds by mechanical alloying

Mechanical alloying (MA) was employed to synthesize Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloys of high weight percentage of the nickel component from the elemental powders of constituents via high-energy ball milling. The
