BACKGROUND Balloon dilation is now commonly used to open sinus ostia while preserving mucosa and minimizing trauma. [] Key Method The device was inserted into the MSO at the start of surgery and removed after 60 minutes. Endoscopic evaluation for patency was performed immediately after removal, and at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. Adverse events were recorded intraoperatively and at each subsequent visit.

TLDR
This article gives a comprehensive review on the most recent state of the art in endonasal endoscopic sinus surgery according to the literature with the following aspects: principles and fundamentals, surgical techniques, indications, outcome, postoperative care, nasal packing and stents, technical equipment.
Editorial
TLDR
A significant correlation between the levels of these cytokines and mucosal eosinophilic infiltration is suggested, and a complex relationship that continues to require further elucidation is suggested.

Safety and Feasibility of Balloon Catheter Dilation of Paranasal Sinus Ostia: A Preliminary Investigation
TLDR
Dilation of sinus ostial regions via balloon catheter–based technology appears to be relatively safe and feasible and larger multicenter clinical trials are now warranted to further establish safety and to determine the role of this new technique.
Catheter-Based Dilation of the Sinus Ostia: Initial Safety and Feasibility Analysis in a Cadaver Model
TLDR
This initial study suggests that catheter technology can be used to dilate sinus ostia safely and that mucosal preservation and ease of use make catheters an attractive minimally invasive treatment strategy.

TLDR
New devices for use in ostial dilation, popularly called sinuplasty, may represent an exciting and minimally invasive set of devices and may also represent a premature attempt to transfer dilation into otolaryngology.
Transantral, Endoscopically Guided Balloon Dilatation of the Ostiomeatal Complex for Chronic Rhinosinusitis under Local Anesthesia
TLDR
Results indicate that transantral balloon dilation of the ostiomeatal complex under local anesthesia appears to be a safe technique for managing isolated maxillary or maxillary and anterior ethmoid sinusitis and can potentially be performed safely in an office setting.
The Drainage System of the Paranasal Sinuses: A Review with Possible Implications for Balloon Catheter Dilation
TLDR
Accessory ostia are not only common for the maxillary sinus but also for the entire paranasal sinus system, which suggests that BCD may potentially inadvertently impair mucociliary clearance of the sinuses through effects on secondary drainage pathways.

TLDR
Balloon dilation of the frontal recess is a relatively safe and effective tool in the management of chronic frontal rhinosinusitis after intensive medical treatment has failed.

TLDR
Use of balloon catheters as instruments in sinus surgery appears to be relatively safe and effective and to improve the patient's quality of life.
