Expression of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) in the parathyroid glands is decreased in secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with chronic renal failure by undefined mechanisms. In the present study, we examined the effects of hyperparathyroidism and dietary calcium and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25-(OH)2D3] on the expression of VDR in rat parathyroid glands.
