Throughout embryonic development as well as during adult hematopoiesis Polycomb group (PcG) proteins fulfill important functions. Stem cell selfrenewal but also lineage fate decisions are controlled by PcGs. Besides a role in normal hematopoiesis, PcGs are often deregulated in various types of cancer, including human leukemias.
