In order to evaluate the interaction between endothelial cells and the perivascular pericytes during physiological angiogenesis, stereological analysis of fine structure was performed on samples of rat skeletal muscle where capillary growth was induced to a similar extent by three different interventions (indirect electrical stimulation, vasodilatation by alpha 1-blockade, stretch due to synergist extirpation).
