The effects of inflammation induced by the inoculation of rats with Freund's adjuvant on calcium transport by isolated rat liver mitochondria and on mitochondrial in vivo protein synthesis were investigated. Mitochondria isolated from the liver of inflamed rats exhibited (i) a reduction in 45Ca2+ uptake and, (ii) a reduction in protein synthesis.
