title={The role of intonation and voice quality in the affective speech perception},
author={I. Grichkovtsova and Anne Lacheret and Michel Morel},
The perception value of intonation and voice quality is investigated for six affective states: anger, sadness, happiness, obviousness, doubt and irony. [...] Key Result Perception results show that each studied affective state has its own usage of prosody and voice quality. Some differences were found in the identification of emotions and attitudes. New questions risen from the present study and further directions of work are presented. Index Terms: affective prosody, voice quality, perception, speech synthesisExpand

The role of voice quality and prosodic contour in affective speech perception
A corpus of affective speech is developed based on one lexically neutral utterance and prosody transplantation method is applied and logistic regression is applied to analyze categorical data and differences in the identification of these two affective categories are observed. Expand

Analyzing the user's state in HCI: from crisp emotions to conversational dispositions
The PIT corpus recordings, which are part of this thesis, let to the development and analysis of a novel hierarchical annotation scheme, enabling the annotator to assign categories in layers with different time scales, leading to several statistically significant correlations between the low level observations and the subjective user state annotations. A generic framework for the inference of user states in human computer interaction
A generic framework that overcomes many difficulties associated with real world user behavior analysis is proposed, based on the analysis and spotting of behavioral cues that are regarded as basic building blocks forming user state specific behavior with the help of related work and the analysis of a large HCI corpus. The role of voice quality in communicating emotion, mood and attitude
Listeners' reactions to an utterance synthesised with seven different voice qualities were elicited in terms of pairs of opposing affective attributes, suggesting that these qualities are considerably more effective in signalling milder affective states than the strong emotions. Expand
Evidence for the independent function of intonation contour type, voice quality, and F0 range in signaling speaker affect
