Experimental and epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are effective in the prevention of human cancers. Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs inhibit the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme that functions to convert arachidonic acid to prostaglandins (PGs).
