Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) is a membrane isoenzyme, the overexpression of which is associated with clear cell carcinoma of the kidney. Its overexpression is restricted mainly to cancer, as it is absent in corresponding normal tissues making it a potential cancer biomarker.
