BRCA1 and BRCA2 account for most cases of hereditary breast cancer in the United States and Europe. These are suppressor genes that are inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion. Several studies showed that the histologic and molecular phenotype of BRCA-associated tumors is different from that of nonhereditary tumors.
