This study describes the male reproductive cycle of Sibynomorphus mikanii from southeastern Brazil considering macroscopic and microscopic variables. Spermatogenesis occurs during spring–summer (September–December) and spermiogenesis or maturation occurs in summer (December–February). The length and width of the kidney, the tubular diameter, and the epithelium height of the sexual segment of the kidney (SSK) are larger in summer–autumn (December–May). Histochemical reaction of the SSK [periodic…
Seasonal variations of male reproductive parameters of Tomodon dorsatus from Southeastern Brazil
TLDR
It is suggested that, at the population level, the reproductive cycle of T. dorsatus can be considered seasonal semi-synchronous, due to the peak of spermiogenic activity in the hot season, and discontinuous at the individual level.
Reproductive biology of Philodryas patagoniensis (Snakes: Dipsadidae) in south Brazil: male reproductive cycle
TLDR
The hypothesis that P. patagoniensis have the ability to produce multiple clutches with long-term stored sperm is supported, and females are significantly larger and heavier than males.
Reproductive biology of the Green Ground Snake Erythrolamprus poecilogyrus sublineatus (Serpentes: Dipsadidae) in Subtropical Brazil.
TLDR
It is possible that the colder climatic conditions of the southern Brazilian coast have shaped the seasonal reproductive pattern in E. p.
Annual Reproductive Activity and Morphology of the Reproductive System of an Andean Population of Atractus (Serpentes, Colubridae)
TLDR
Adult males are reproductive throughout the year and constitute a permanent resource for females, whereas females have extended, aseasonal reproductive cycles with an evidently discontinuous reproductive cycle with only one clutch per year.
Reproductive ecology and diet of the fossorial snake Phalotris lativittatus in the Brazilian Cerrado
TLDR
This study examined 62 preserved specimens of Phalotris lativittatus to obtain information about sexual dimorphism, reproduction, seasonal activity and diet, the first quantitative study on the ecology of an Elapomorphini species.
Reproductive Biology of the Brazilian Lancehead, Bothrops moojeni (Serpentes, Viperidae), from the State of São Paulo, Southeastern Brazil
TLDR
This work addresses several aspects of the reproductive biology of a population from southeastern Brazil, including sexual maturation and dimorphism, male and female reproductive cycles, and sperm storage, and provides the first record of male-male combat behavior in the wild.
Morphology and seasonality of the sexual segment of the kidney in genus Bothrops snakes
TLDR
The morphology of SSK in various species of the pitviper‐genus Bothrops, a medically relevant clade of Neotropical snakes, is investigated using histology, histochemistry, as well as scanning and transmission electron microscopy to evaluate the relationship ofSSK hypertrophy with spermatogenesis and storage of sperm.
Reproductive Biology of Bothrops atrox (Serpentes, Viperidae, Crotalinae) from the Brazilian Amazon
TLDR
Results show that B. atrox from Amazonia has a unique reproductive strategy (for each sex) among pit vipers, indicating greater reproductive plasticity when compared with its congeners.
Sexual segment of the kidney of the lizard, Eutropis carinata: A light microscopic and ultrastructural seasonal study
We studied seasonal variation of the secretory granules in the epithelial cells of the sexual segment of the kidney (SSK) during the annual sexual cycle in the lizard, Eutropis carinata using light
Ecology of the snake Atractus paraguayensis (Dipsadidae) in southern Brazil
TLDR
It is found that Female Atractus paraguayensis Werner, 1924 has a larger body size than males and that the reproductive cycle of females is seasonal, with vitellogenesis occurring in the warmer months of the year.

Reproductive Biology of Male Eastern Garter Snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) from a Denning Population in Central Wisconsin
TLDR
The study population exhibited a dissociated reproductive pattern in which spermatogenisis was initiated after the breeding season had ended and sperm over wintered in the vas deferens and testosterone levels were not significantly different from the levels of animals sampled immediately upon emergence.
Ultrastructure of the reproductive system of the black swamp snake (seminatrix pygaea). III. Sexual segment of the male kidney
TLDR
This article provides the first study at the ultrastructural level of seasonal variation in the sexual segment of the kidney of a squamate, the natricine snake Seminatrix pygaea, and shows that synthesis of secretory product is initiated with the onset of spermatogenic activity in the spring and culminates with completion of spermiation in the fall.
REPRODUCTIVE ECOLOGY OF THE HORSESHOE WHIP SNAKE (COLUBER HIPPOCREPIS) IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA
TLDR
Dissections of preserved specimens from the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, together with field observations, provided information on size at sexual maturity, reproductive and fat body cycling, clutch size, hatching period, and feeding frequency of the Horseshoe whip snake.
Natural History of the Vine Snake Oxybelis Fulgidus (Serpentes, Colubridae) From Brazil
TLDR
Aspects of natural history of the vine snake Oxybelis fulgidus from the northern region of Brazil were inferred based on the analysis of 106 preserved specimens, and from a review of records in the published literature.
Long-Term Sperm Storage in the Female Neotropical Rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus ( Viperidae : Crotalinae )
TLDR
The muscular twisting and convolution of the uterus in Crotalus durissus terrificus is reported as a strategy to store sperm over winter (long-term sperm storage) as a way to avoid waste of vitellogenic follicles, which are not ready to be fertilized at the time of mating.
Mating and Reproductive Cycle in the Neotropical Colubrid Snake Chironius bicarinatus
TLDR
It is suggested that combat in November (in austral spring), recorded in a previous study, may be related to the presence of androgens in snakes during the non-mating season.
Renal sexual segment of the Cottonmouth snake, Agkistrodon piscivorous (Reptilia, Squamata, Viperidae)
TLDR
This study is the first to describe the ultrastructure of the RSS of a viper (Viperidae) and only the fourth on a snake, and indicates that active product synthesis is occurring in June and July.
Reproductive biology of the false coral snake Oxyrhopus guibei (Colubridae) from southeastern Brazil
TLDR
The reproductive biology of the false coral snake, Oxyrhopus guibei, was studied through dissection of 496 specimens, combined with observations on captive individuals, with reproductive cycles in both males and females seem to be continuous.
