In patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), renal cysts grow exponentially. Since remaining renal parenchyma has a capacity to compensate for the loss of glomerular filtration, the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) may be sustained until the disease progresses.
