Relationship between neurotrophins, especially brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and bipolar disorder (BPD) has been widely investigated, but results have been inconsistent. BDNF polymorphism may be associated with the susceptibility to subtype BPD such as rapid cycling BPD or early onset BPD.
