We study the distribution and dynamics of the circumand intergalactic medium using a dense galaxy survey covering the field around the Q0107 system, a unique z ≈ 1 projected quasar triplet. With full Lyα coverage along all three lines-of-sight from z=0.18 to z=0.73, more than 1200 galaxy spectra, and two MUSE fields, we examine the structure of the gas around galaxies on 100-1000 kpc scales. We search for H i absorption systems occurring at the same redshift (within 500 km s−1) in multiple…
How Identifying Circumgalactic Gas by Line-of-sight Velocity instead of the Location in 3D Space Affects O vi Measurements
The high incidence rate of the O vi λλ1032, 1038 absorption around low-redshift, ∼L * star-forming galaxies has generated interest in studies of the circumgalactic medium. We use the high-resolution

Galaxies at a redshift of ∼0.5 around three closely spaced quasar sightlines
We examine the relationship between galaxies and the intergalactic medium at z < 1 using a group of three closely spaced background quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) with z em ≈ 1 observed with the Hubble
Into the Ly α jungle: exploring the circumgalactic medium of galaxies at z ∼ 4−5 with MUSE
We present a study of the galaxy environment of nine strong H i + C iv absorption line systems (16.2 < log(N(HI)) < 21.2) spanning a wide range in metallicity at z ∼ 4−5, using MUSE integral field
Probing the intra-group medium of a z = 0.28 galaxy group
We present new MUSE observations of a galaxy group probed by a background quasar. The quasar sightline passes between multiple z = 0.28 galaxies, whilst showing at the same redshift low-ionized metal
Nature of the absorbing gas associated with a galaxy group at z~0.4
We present new MUSE observations of quasar field Q2131-1207 with a log N(HI)=19.50+/-0.15 sub-DLA at z_abs=0.42980. We detect four galaxies at a redshift consistent with that of the absorber where
The Connection between Galaxies and Intergalactic Absorption Lines at Redshift 2 ≲ z ≲ 3*
Absorption-line spectroscopy of 23 background QSOs and numerous background galaxies has let us measure the spatial distribution of metals and neutral hydrogen around 1044 UV-selected galaxies at
Quasar Sightline and Galaxy Evolution (QSAGE) survey – I. The galaxy environment of O vi absorbers up to z = 1.4 around PKS 0232−04
We present the first results from a study of O vi absorption around galaxies at z < 1.44 using data from a near-infrared grism spectroscopic Hubble Space Telescope Large Programme, the Quasar
Probing the large and massive circumgalactic medium of a galaxy at z ∼ 0.2 using a pair of quasars
We present an analysis of two O VI absorbers at redshift z {sub abs} = 0.227, which were detected in the spectra of two closely spaced QSO sightlines (Q 0107–025A and B) and observed with the Cosmic
Galaxies and Intergalactic Matter at Redshift z ~ 3: Overview*
We present the first results from a survey of the relative spatial distributions of galaxies, intergalactic neutral hydrogen, and intergalactic metals at high redshift. We obtained high-resolution
The association between gas and galaxies – I. CFHT spectroscopy and pair analysis
We investigate the relative distribution of the gaseous contents of the Universe (as traced by a sample of Lyman α (Ly-α ) absorbers), and the luminous baryonic matter (as traced by a redshift survey
Galaxies Probing Galaxies at High Resolution: Co-Rotating Gas Associated with a Milky Way Analog at z=0.4
We present results on gas flows in the halo of a Milky Way-like galaxy at z=0.413 based on high-resolution spectroscopy of a background galaxy. This is the first study of circumgalactic gas at high
