The purpose of this study was two-fold: 1) to assess the degree to which para-methoxyamphetamine and para-ethoxyamphetamine maintain self-administration behavior, and 2) to determine the similarity or difference between these drugs and amphetamine in drug discrimination tests. Animals were trained to self-administer 0.3 mg/kg/infusion cocaine on a fixed-ratio 5 (FR5) schedule of reinforcement. Substitution of para-ethoxyamphetamine (PEA), para-methoxyamphetamine (PMA), or saline produced… Expand

Discriminative stimulus properties of substituted amphetamine derivatives
Of the three compounds tested, DMMTA had the greatest response rate-decreasing effect, and over the range of 0.1-3.0 mg/kg there was little evidence for generalization. Expand
Effect of PMA optical isomers and 4-MTA in PMMA-trained rats
Like MDMA, R(-)PMA and 4-MTA are capable of producing PMMA stimulus effects in rats, but unlike MDMA, neither agent substituted for (+)amphetamine. Expand
Synthetic Amphetamine Derivatives
Amphetamine derivatives share a common phenylethylamine chemical skeleton that, with subtle structural modifications, can result in a diverse array of drugs capable of producing varied and discreteExpand
A novel MDMA analogue, UWA‐101, that lacks psychoactivity and cytotoxicity, enhances l‐DOPA benefit in parkinsonian primates
A novel MDMA analogue, UWA‐101, that lacks psychoactivity and cytotoxicity, enhances l‐DOPA benefit in parkinsonian primates and highlights the potential benefits of studying illicit drugs that in themselves would never be considered safe for long‐term therapy. Expand
An investigation into the suitability of time-of-flight mass spectrometry in forensic toxicology
Liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry is one of the most powerful tools in the toxicologist’s arsenal to detect a wide variety of compounds from many different matrices. However, theExpand

Pizotyline did not antagonize PMA-induced stimulus control in rats trained with PMA and saline but did antagonize the intermediate responding produced by PMA in LSD-trained subjects, suggesting PMA does possess some LSD-like effects which are mediated serotonergically. Expand

The results suggest that most psychomotor stimulants, although having different structures, are likely to produce discriminative stimulus properties similar to d-amphetamine. Expand
Comparative actions of monomethoxyamphetamines on the release and uptake of biogenic amines in brain tissue.
The high potency of PMA on increasing the release and inhibiting the uptake of 3H-5-HT suggests than 5-HT may be involved in the production of hallucinogenic effects ofPMA. Expand
Abstract The effects of dl -4-methoxyamphetamine (PMA) and dl -3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) were compared to those of d -amphetamine (AMP) and mescaline (MES) on unconditioned and conditionedExpand
Cocaine self-administration is increased by both D1 and D2 dopamine antagonists
The data suggest that cocaine reinforcement depends upon both D1 and D2 receptor subtypes, and higher doses of the D1 antagonist SCH23390 generally caused decreases in self-administration which may in part be due to the response-decreasing properties of this agent. Expand
Structure-activity studies on methoxy-substituted phenylisopropylamines using drug discrimination methodology
Of three possible mono-methoxyphenylisopropylamines, all three produced amphetamine-appropriate responding, but none was as potent as racemic amphetamine. Expand
Pharmacological evidence for the central serotonergic effects of monomethoxyamphetamines.
The results indicate that whereas the increased MTA produced by d-A is not dependent on the availability of 5-HT, PMA exerts its pharmacological effects by releasing 5- HT and that the MMA effect is due to a release of both5-HT and dopamine. Expand
Effects of certain hallucinogenic amphetamine analogues on the release of [3H]serotonin from rat brain synaptosomes.
The enantiomers of 3,4-(methylenedioxy)amphetamine (MDA), p-methoxyamphetamine (PMA), and N-Me-MDA (MDMA), along with their alpha, alpha-dimethylated derivatives, were evaluated for an effect on the release of [3H]serotonin from rat whole brain synaptosomes and suggested that transmitter release may play a role in the biological activity of MDMA. The identification of LSD-like hallucinogens using the chronic spinal dog.
The results of these studies indicate that psilocin, mescaline, dimethyltryptamine and tryptamine are LSD-like drugs, and DOM, DOB, DMA, and TMA are predominantly LSD- like drugs but do have some amphetamine-like action. Expand
