In rabbits with artificial hyperthyroidism the rate of the rhythmic contraction of both the intact and excised small intestine was increased. The gradient in rate of rhythmic contraction was somewhat flattened. These deviations from normal were less marked in excised than in intact bowel. Alvarez’s observation that the rate of rhythmic contraction is slower in the excised than in the intact bowel was confirmed.
