This research extends the rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) analysis of O-(2, 3, 4, 5, 6-pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine hydrochloride (PFBHA) derivatives of methylglyoxal and dihydroxyacetone in Australian Leptospermum (L.) honeys to quantify hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content. Results showed that among the studied honeys stored at 4°C, all six L. polygalifolium and one L. liversidgei honeys exceeded the HMF upper limit (40 mg/kg) of the International Honey Commission (IHC… Expand

Identification and Quantification of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural in Food Products
A B S T R A C T Background and Objectives: 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is known as an indicator of quality deterioration in a wide range of foods. The current study covered 70 samples taken fromExpand
The Antibacterial Activity of Australian Leptospermum Honey Correlates with Methylglyoxal Levels
TLDR
The potential for Australian Leptospermum honey as a wound care product is demonstrated, and a strong positive relationship between NPA and MGO concentration is assessed, and DHA was present in all of the active honey samples, indicating a potential for ongoing conversion to MGO. Expand
Rapid and Reliable HPLC Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Dihydroxyacetone, Methylglyoxal and 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural in Leptospermum Honeys
TLDR
A robust method for quantitation of all three compounds in a single HPLC run is reported and two accurate methylglyoxal standards are proposed, including a commercial standard and a derivative that can be prepared within the laboratory. Expand
Analysis of 5-Hydroxymethyl-2-Furfuraldehyde in Electrolytic Products and Energy Drink Products
Electrolytic products and energy drink products are used as electrolyte to heal diarrehoea, energy serving for athlete and labour people. Both products contain the main component such as sodium ion,Expand
Enzyme activity, amino acid profiles and hydroxymethylfurfural content in Ethiopian monofloral honey
TLDR
Enzymes activity alone cannot be a worthwhile indicator of quality for Ethiopian honey; besides diastase and invertase activity, the quality control of Ethiopian honeys should be supported by HMF parameters. Expand
Kinetics of Conversion of Dihydroxyacetone to Methylglyoxal in Honey
iv Model systems (sugar and water) were used to control the reactions occurring during storage; DHA and individual perturbants were added to the artificial honey to isolate the effect of theExpand
Effects ofBotanicalOrigin andAgeing on HMF Content inBeeHoney
Aims: HMF (5-hydroxymethylfurfural)is considered an important quality parameter for honey. Elevated concentrations of HMF in honey provide an indication of origin, storage in poor conditions or ageExpand

Honey; Physicochemical properties; Hydroxymethylfurfural; Determination ABSTRACT: This study was intended to evaluate the quality of 30 honey samples, in terms of physicochemical properties such asExpand
In vitro antibacterial phenolic extracts from "sugarbag" pot-honeys of Australian stingless bees (Tetragonula carbonaria).
Australian stingless bee honeys have been shown to exert antioxidant and in vitro antimicrobial properties; however their bioactive factors remained unidentified. This study investigated theExpand
Comprehensive In Situ Killing of Six Common Wound Pathogens With Manuka Honey Dressings Using a Modified AATCC-TM100.
TLDR
The results presented herein show that when well-characterized medical-grade Manuka honey is used in dressings these dressings can comprehensively kill common wound pathogens associated with infected wounds. Expand

An RP-HPLC determination of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural in honey The case of strawberry tree honey.
TLDR
The bias-free method allows a complete determination of HMF from HA to the baseline level and is faster and more precise than the RP-HPLC official method: the detection and quantification limits are 1.9 and 4.0mgkg(-1), respectively. Expand
High performance liquid chromatography of furfural and hydroxymethylfurfural in spirits and honey.
