}SUMMARY This study aimed to confirm that vertical transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) can occur via the infected ovum. Specimens studied were obtained from discarded test-tube embryos from mothers with chronic HBV infection who had received in vitro fertilization treatment. Single-cell reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction was used to detect HBV mRNA in the embryos. HBV mRNA was detected in the cleavage embryos of patients with chronic HBV infection, with a detection rate of 13·2…

The human oocyte transcriptome and proteome obtained in previous studies were reviewed and found that human oocytes from the in vitro fertilization program expressed both the ACE2 and BSG genes and the corresponding ACE2and BSG proteins, which means thathuman oocytes possess the molecular ‘machinery’ to facilitate SARS-CoV-2 entrance and infection.

Replication and Expression of Oocyte-mediated HBV DNA in Early Mouse Embryo

HBV DNA integrated into oocyte genome can be brought into embryo by fertilization with normal spermatozoon and the replication and expression of HBV genes in embryo provide the direct evidence that HBV DNA are able to transmit vertically to next generation via female germ line.
