Overexpression of the pituitary tumor-transforming gene (PTTG) has been associated with tumorigenesis. In a mouse model that spontaneously develops follicular thyroid cancer (FTC) with distant metastasis (TRbetaPV mouse), PTTG is overexpressed, similar to human thyroid cancer.
