Abstract It was found that ferritin molecules are transported across inflamed blood capillary endothelium in large vacuoles as well as in small vesicles. Ferritin could be seen leaving such organelles, attached to the ablumenal plasma membranes, 30 to 60 sec after it had been injected into the blood, and well before there was any buildup of the tracer in the tissues adjacent to the endothelium.
Three‐dimensional analysis of vacuoles and surface invaginations of capillary endothelia in the eel rete mirabile
TLDR
Three‐dimensional information from serial sections is required to understand the organization and functions of vacuole‐like structures in capillary endothelium.
Increased vesicular and vacuolar transendothelial transport in traumatic human brain oedema. A review.
TLDR
The activated capillaries showed predominantly an enhanced abluminally orientated vesicular transport by means of small, medium and large uncoated and clathrin coated vesicles, as well as the presence of endothelial tubular structures.
Vacuolar structures can be identified by AFM elasticity mapping.
TLDR
A method that images and mechanically characterizes intracellular structures in whole cells by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and detects an analogous pattern of protein-poor spots, thereby confirming mechanical rigidity to arise from crosslinked proteins.
Excess plasma proteins as a cause of chronic inflammation and lymphoedema: Quantitative electron microscopy
TLDR
It is concluded that altered proteins in the tissues are a cause of Chronic inflammation and that, in particular, chronic lymphoedema is a form of chronic inflammation.

Increasedvesicularandvacuolartransendothelialtransport intraumatichumanbrainoedema.A review
TLDR

Three-dimensional organization of plasmalemmal vesicles in endothelial cells. An analysis by serial sectioning of frog mesenteric capillaries.
TLDR
The study strongly supports the recent proposal that endothelial vesicles are part of cluster-like invaginations from the cell surfaces and not freely moving entities, as generally believed and it is proposed that the transendothelial channels formed by fusion of the innermost vesicle in the invagination from the two sides of the capillary wall represent the “large” pores in noninflamed continuous capillaries.
Tissue changes in chronic experimental lymphoedema in dogs.
TLDR
It was found that some cells (macrophages, fibroblasts and, to a lesser extent, lymphocytes) increased greatly in numbers and relative volumes, andCollagen also greatly increased in relative volume in chronic lymphoedema.

TLDR
Pericytes contained bundles of parallel microfilaments along the adluminal side and in the terminal processes, and exhibited an intimate “peg-and-socket” relationship with endothelial cells, suggesting a contractile function of pericytes and their possible role in regulating capillary lumina and focal blood flow.
Fine structural observations on two congenitally lymphoedematous dogs
TLDR
Results are similar to those found in chronic experimental lymphoedema in dogs, in chronic high-protein oedema and in chronic inflammation, and the underlying similarity of all these conditions is emphasised.

The passage of particles from the peritoneal cavities of mice into their diaphragmatic lymphatics, and from these vessels into the peri-lymphatic connective tissues has been studied. The particles
Mechanism of the sustained action of histamine and bradykinin on transport of large molecules across capillary walls in the dog paw.
TLDR
Raising venous pressure in the dog paw during the sustained elevation of capillary permeability produced by histamine or bradykinin increased lymph flow and decreased lymph concentrations of plasma proteins and Dextran-110 proportionally, concluding that these agents increase transport of large molecules by a nonhydraulically conductive pathway.
Effects of histamine and some other substances on molecular selectivity of the capillary wall to plasma proteins and dextran.
Abstract Lymph/plasma concentration ratios ( R ) were measured for Dextran-110 and for several plasma protein components resolved by disc electrophoresis or gel filtration of dog leg lymph before and
STRUCTURAL MODULATIONS OF PLASMALEMMAL VESICLES
Structural modulations affecting a small fraction of the population of plasmalemmal vesicles of vascular endothelia are described. They include forms which are apparently produced by the fusion of
STUDIES ON INFLAMMATION: I. The Effect of Histamine and Serotonin on Vascular Permeability: An Electron Microscopic Study
TLDR
The mechanism, whereby histamine and serotonin increase the permeability of blood vessels, was studied in the rat by means of the electron microscope, and electron microscopic findings suggested that the endothelial cells become partially disconnected along the intercellular junctions.
PERMEABILITY OF MUSCLE CAPILLARIES TO EXOGENOUS MYOGLOBIN
TLDR
The findings indicate that myoglobin molecules cross the endothelium of muscle capillaries primarily via plasmalemmal vesicles, and suggest that the same structures are, at least in part, the structural equivalent of the small pore system of this type of capillary.
THE IDENTIFICATION OF CHYLOMICRA AND LIPOPROTEINS IN TISSUE SECTIONS AND THEIR PASSAGE INTO JEJUNAL LACTEALS
TLDR
The electron microscopic appearances of chylomicra and lipoproteins have been investigated and it would seem that this is the most important route for passage into the lacteals in the villi of the jejunum.
Structural basis of permeability in sequential segments of the microvasculature of the diaphragm. I. Bipolar microvascular fields.
TLDR
The new procedure has the advantage of allowing precise sampling in the muscle microvasculature and can be used to study regional differences in the structure and function of the small vessels of the peripheral vasculature.
Quantitative morphological correlations of alterations in capillary permeability, following histamine and moderate burning, in the mouse diaphragm; and the effects of benzopyrones.
TLDR
It was found that the permeabilities of the capillaries while they had many open junctions were much greater than those found by experiment, which indicates that the connective tissue, not the endothelium, is the factor limiting small molecular passage; the injured vessels are, temporarily, tunnel-capillaries.
Influence of histamine and some other substances on blood-lymph transport of plasma protein and dextran in the dog paw.
TLDR
Injection of histamine or bradykinin into the dog's paw increased lymph flow and lymph-plasma concentration ratios of plasma protein and Dextran-110 and PST and PSD were increased but did not exceed the upper limit of the normal range.
