Several factors make diagnosis of a possible behavioural variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) particularly challenging, especially the overlap of certain symptomatic dimensions such as apathy, disinhibition, depression, anhedonia, stereotyped behaviour, and psychosis between bvFTD and several psychiatric disorders that appear in late adulthood.
