Of the many papers on the subject of spina bifida few are concerned mainly with the orthopaedic problems it presents. Macnab (I954) has indicated that, particularly since the advent of antibiotics, the early mortality rate is not as high as formerly, so that although the treatment of associated hydrocephalus is still not satisfactory, more patients may survive to require orthopaedic care.
