The neurotoxic organochlorine pesticides gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane, alpha-endosulfan and dieldrin induce in mammals a hyperexcitability syndrome accompanied by convulsions. They reduce the GABA-induced Cl(-) flux. The strychnine-sensitive glycine receptor also regulates Cl(-)-flux inhibitory responses.
