The subcellular distribution of sialic acid was determined at the ultrastructural level using Limax flavus agglutinin (LFA). This lectin, which is specific for N-acetylneuraminic acid and N-glycolylneuraminic acid, was covalently conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP).
