Cluster headache (CH) is a stereotyped primary headache characterized by strictly unilateral severe orbital or periorbital pain and categorized as either episodic or chronic (1,2). Its prevalence is 0.1% (3). Oxygen and sumatriptan are the treatments of choice for individual attacks, whereas verapamil, lithium, corticosteroids and other neuromodulators can suppress attacks during cluster periods (1). All standard medication treatments may be ineffective. Surgical treatment may be an option for…

Indoleamine Hallucinogens in Cluster Headache: Results of the Clusterbusters Medication Use Survey

TLDR
Findings provide additional evidence that several indoleamine hallucinogens are rated as effective in treating cluster headache and reinforce the need for further investigation of the effects of these and related compounds in cluster headache under experimentally controlled settings.

Treatment of Cluster Headache Symptoms using Synthetic Tryptamine N,N-Diallyl-5 Methoxytryptamine

TLDR
Based on its considerable efficacy and observed low risk of adverse side effects, 5MEO-DALT may be considered a viable treatment option for refractory cluster headache patients who are comfortable with self-administration of alternative treatments when used in a regimented self-treatment program under careful controls.

Is BOL-148 hallucinogenic?

  • P. Tfelt-Hansen
  • Medicine
Cephalalgia : an international journal of headache
  • 2011
TLDR
It is clear that BOL-148 in relatively small amount produced a delirious reaction similar in almost all respects to that of LSD, according to the old literature on the lacking hallucinogenic effect.

silocybin dose-dependently causes delayed , transient headaches in healthy olunteers atthew

TLDR
This double-blind study examined a broad range of psilocybin doses on headache in 18 healthy participants and found that p silocybin frequently caused headache, the incidence, duration, and severity of which increased in a dose-dependent manner.

Lysergic acid diethylamide and psilocybin for the management of patients with persistent pain: a potential role?

TLDR
LSD and psilocybin are generally safe if administered by a healthcare professional, although further investigations are needed to assess their utility for patients with persistent pain, especially associated with terminal illness.

Exploratory Controlled Study of the Migraine-Suppressing Effects of Psilocybin

TLDR
There is an enduring therapeutic effect in migraine headache after a single administration of psilocybin, urging further investigation into the mechanism underlying the clinical effects of select 5-HT 2A receptor compounds in migraine, as well as other neuropsychiatric conditions.

Effective Symptomatic Medication Should Be Available in Prophylactic Trials in Cluster Headache

TLDR
The issue of psychedelics in headache management would be more appropriately discussed in an article dedicated to that specific topic, so as to focus on the currently available ergot derivatives.

Drug and Alcohol Dependence

TLDR
Headache is an adverse event to be expected with the nonmedical use of psilocybin-containing mushrooms as well as the administration of p silocybin in human research, and should not present a barrier to future pSilocybin research.

Recent advances in the diagnosis and management of cluster headache

TLDR
Clinical, pathophysiologic, and therapeutic features of cluster headache are reviewed, which include new treatments for episodic cluster headache (galcanezumab and non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation) and recent updates in diagnosis include the redefinition of chronic cluster headache.

History of Methysergide in Migraine

TLDR
The rise, fall and subsequent use of methysergide as a third-choice drug of the first effective migraine prophylactic, methylergometrine, is described.

Psychopharmacological Studies of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD-25) Intoxication:€€Effects of Premedication with BOL-128 (2-Bromo-d-Lysergic Acid Diethylamide), Mescaline, Atropine, Amobarbital, and Chlorpromazine

TLDR
It was found that premedication with amobarbital (Amytal) sodium and chlorpromazine did not prevent LSD-25 or mescaline intoxication but pointed out that such drugs produced suppressive effects when given at the height of the intoxication.

EFNS guidelines on the treatment of cluster headache and other trigeminal‐autonomic cephalalgias

TLDR
Large series suggest that lamotrigine is the most effective preventive agent, with topiramate and gabapentin also being useful in treatment of SUNCT syndrome, and surgical procedures, although in part promising, require further scientific evaluation.

Hypothalamic stimulation in chronic cluster headache: a pilot study of efficacy and mode of action.

TLDR
It is concluded that hypothalamic stimulation has remarkable efficacy in most, but not all, patients with treatment-resistant chronic cluster headache, and is not due to a simple analgesic effect or to hormonal changes.

Neurostimulation approaches to primary headache disorders

TLDR
This review summarizes the current concepts, approaches and outcome data of invasive device-based neurostimulation approaches using occipital-nerve stimulation and deep-brain stimulation to further elucidate the clinical potential of neuro Stimulation in chronic headache.

Chemotherapeutic trials in psychosis. III. Addendum-2-brom-d-lysergic acid diethylamide (BOL).

Response of cluster headache to psilocybin and LSD

TLDR
The authors interviewed 53 cluster headache patients who had used psilocybin or lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) to treat their condition to find out whether these patients had aborted attacks or reported remission period extension.

Hypothalamic stimulation for intractable cluster headache: Long-term experience

TLDR
Hypothalamic stimulation is an effective, safe, and well-tolerated alternative to surgery for chronic patients with drug-refractory CH.

Acquired and crossed tolerance to mescaline, LSD-25, and BOL-148.

TLDR
The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether rapid tolerance to mescaline also develops in humans, whether subjects having acquired such tolernce are resistant to LSD-25, whether protracted administration of BOL-148 gives a tolerance to this drug and to the chemically related LSD- 25.
