Light weight structures are a challenge for the structural engineer and an important step t owards a sustainable architecture. We present the ne w light weight structural concept Tensairity. In Te nsairity, compression and tension are physically separated. L ow pressure compressed air is used for pretensionin g the tension element and for stabilizing the compression element against buckling. It can be shown that no buckling problem arises.
